Slow It Down feature on ‘Retrospective All Stars Vol.1′
by slowitdown on April 21, 2012
Our first official release comes out May 10th on London’s ‘Retrospective Records’ – owners Ruben and Ra have rounded up some of disco’s most exciting talent (and us) for a limited run triple-vinyl album.
Our track Crush (co-produced with our talented friend’ Glasgow’s Rob Etherson) is a slow burning disco jam with a ripping sax solo and a particlarly nasty Moog bassline.
You can pre-order and preview the the track over on Juno, if you like it buy it!
Easter Sunday, Glasgow…
by slowitdown on April 2, 2012
This coming Easter Sunday (8th April) we’re part of a pretty special All Dayer in one of our favourite Glasgow venues; Saint Judes.
Saint Judes is a boutique hotel dead centre in the cities best drinking area; Bath Street offering a sprawling bar and club area as well as some damn fine lodgings.
Venues promoters ‘The Shimmy’ are throwing a 3 room, 12 hour party where we’ll be hosting a room.
We’ve asked along some of our favourite Scottish dj’s, with Glasgow and Edinburgh representing ‘Slow It Down and Friends’.
While the two other rooms focus on the Tech-House/Techno sound with (TicTacToe and Subculture’s Telford assembling the dj’s) – we’re pushing the disco and slo mo house sound.
Our guests include LuckyMe’s Dema, Juno favourite 78 Edits, Sub Club upstarts; I:AM ; Judes resident and the man behind the excellent Synth Glasgow website – Alaska.
Finally Cabaret Voltaire residents ‘Cheap Picasso’ ; whose Gasoline Dance Machine club night have brought the likes of Erol Alkan and Brodinski to the capital recently.
The event will come to a messy conclusion later in the night, with headline guest GLIMPSE (Crosstown Rebels/Planet E) bringing the techno to the downstairs club.
We’re kicking things off at 2pm with a Hip-Hop and R&B set and we’ll jack up the tempo from there.
If you fancy coming down to join the party, full event details and tickets are available here:

They’ll be an afters for those with stamina, have a chat with one of the promoters on the day!

Slow It Down – March 2012 mix
by slowitdown on March 14, 2012
Last week we put up our latest residents mix for you to check out on Soundcloud.
Call it wishful thinking but we have Summer in mind with this one, pushing up the tempo (a little) and focusing on the tracks that are really doing it for us at the moment.
With producers from Australia (Mic Newman), Scotland, (The Revenge), England (Hot Toddy and our firm favourite Alphabet City (who you may know better as Brighton’s BlackLodge)), to USA, Italy and beyond – it’s great to hear each countries unique take on the whole slow house thing.
The mix has been well received so far, so we hope you can check it out, it’s downloadable for your iPod if that’s your thing too.
Guest Mix 003 – DJ Dean ‘Sunshine’ Smith
by slowitdown on February 10, 2012
For the third in our guest mix series we bring you a heart-warming blend of nu-balearic and pitched down house from our favourite Brummie; Dean ‘Sunshine’ Smith.
As well as being an avid music lover, promoter, record dealer and all round good guy, Dean is also a key figure behind Croatia’s Garden Festival – where we first bumped into Dean working his magic at one of the many boat parties a few years back.
Shortly after we invited Dean up to guest at one of our low-key parties in Glasgow, bringing a little bit of the Adriatic sunshine (and a big bag of 45′s) up north.
Last year Dean launched his ‘Soulshare’ imprint, releasing both Vinyl and digitally, retouching well-known and oft-forgotten soul classics, whilst retaining the spirit of modern house.
In a day where everyone’s releasing edits, Dean’s love for the craft is reflected in his sympathetic reworks, and we’re delighted he’s agreed to put this slick mix of both current and future releases together for us, enjoy..
You can check out and purchase Deans tracks

Back at the Sub Club
by slowitdown on February 1, 2012
Glasgow’s The Sub Club has a special place in the heart of most Scottish clubbers and for thousands has made a lasting impression over it’s 25 year history.
Derrick Carter, Joy Orbison, 2 Bears and Rolando are amongst recent guests and after one visit it’s easy to see why it’s a must-play venue.
We’ve lost our mind countless times over the years on that heaving dancefloor and it’s easy to see why it’s a firm favourite of DJ’s and producers alike.
We made our Subbie debut at the end of last year and we’re delighted to be asked back to play, next week at the infamous I:AM
I AM rewrote the midweek clubbing rulebook and draws packed, enthusiastic crowds that any promoter would sell their soul for at the weekend!
Hopefully see some of you guys at Sub Club next week!

Elijah Collins Mix
by siteadmin on January 26, 2012
Our second mix in our guest series comes from London’s Elijah Collins.
No stranger to the Beatport and Juno top 10 with his originals (with partners in crime; Nist and Tee J) and new remixes for the likes of Kris Darang – just check out his wicked take on Darangs ‘Check Me Out’
One of our favourite producers from the uber talented Mullet Records camp, he is a badman behind the decks and a famiilar face on the London scene, supporting the likes of Greg Wilson Alex Raphael and Aeroplane recently – and it’s a pleasure to host Elijahs wicked blend of Soul, Funk, Disco and Boogie, both old and new.

Chromeo – Hot Mess (Slow It Down Moody Edit)
by slowitdown on January 19, 2012
Chromeo pretty much have it all, an Aladdin’s cave of vintage synths that they squeeze the slickest vintage Boogie lines from, clever pop lyrics and hooks that engrain themselves your head after a few listens.
I caught them live in Florida recently and the live show was just as polished as the cd’s that aren’t ever far from my stereo!
This remix edit is stripped back and pitched down a little, enjoy.
Munga Guest Mix
by siteadmin on January 9, 2012
First up in our guest mix series is a heater from our favourite disco peddler Munga.
The Brooklyn resident had us hooked since his wicked rework of Dynasty’s ‘Love In The Fast Lane’ – a track we truly ripped the backside out of last year.
A producer who dissects tracks to make girls move on the dancefloor; it’s fair to say we’re all over anything anything he puts out – this wicked mix being no exception.
We think 2012 will be a big year for the native New Yorker.
You can check out and purchase Munga’s tracks
